For the ladies....post-op birth control

Had appt with Dr Glazer today who advised me that I should switch bc methods after surgery since the pill is not as effective (this, despite Dr Hagan saying it was fine -aargh to inconsistancies).

I'm ok with switching if i must, but the pill is the only thing i have used since i was 17. I'm looking for advice/suggestions on other options. Dr Glazer suggested the "headache" method but don't think that will fly for 2 years with ny boyfriend lol

I do want to have children in the future, so "permanent" methods are not options. I was considering the Depo Provera injection but read about really long adjustments when stopping.

Any thoughts are appreciated

I'm 2 years post op and I've remained on the pill since surgery.  I've had no issues and no scares.

I've used the nuvaring since my surgery last April and I love it, no side effects, like longer/heavier periods, no weight gain etc.... You insert it once a month you leave it in for 21 days and out for 7.

I love it.

I went on the evra patch days before surgery. As per the clinics advice and i like it no issues. Switch the patch once a week. 3 weeks on one off. Periods are a lot lighter and minimal cramps.

I read online that some patches are less effective in women who are overweight/obese - did any of your doctors mention that or is it just a manufacturers percaution?

My Dr also advised me my old method of birthcontrol "pills" would not be effective for me. I have had the Mirena IUD for a little over 3 weeks now which is good for 5 years, and can be removed at any time. I do not even notice it is there. There was some light spotting for about 2weeks which is no longer.

RNY 12/11 -51 lost post op.
