So here i am... Running since 6weeks post op and 280lbs.. Fast forward to now and am running still- almost 5mths post op at 244lbs... I have completed the 9 weeks of training for Couch 2 5K.. Yeaa i can jog the 30mins no problem.. In fact i am proud of this, seeing as when i first started i could barely get through 1 1/2 minutes !

My problem is i am only hitting the 3.7-4K mark att the end of my 30 mins..

I am sooo very discouraged! I run 3 days a week- which I feel is a healthy amount.

I have signed up for my first 5K run for end of august - The Color Run!

I am hoping i can get my **** together by then and get to 5k... Urgh what is my deal?!

Ive been sprinting the last minute of my run to push myself and thats been good..

Fellow runners, i am in desperate need of advice to get to this 5k ...
Help!

I so admire you Chanelle and all of the others who have taken up running along their journey's. It's a pipe dream for me at this point, and not sure if my poor old knees will be able to run any k's after carrying around and extra 140 #'s for my entire adult life.
Just curious, the the finish requirement within 39 minutes or is that a goal that you have made for yourself, to me 3.7-4 k within 30 minutes is awesome, just think about where you were 4 months ago!!

Ok first, relax, you are doing awesome! is your goal to run 5 km in 30 minutes? Cause I have skinny friends that can't do that!

Keep running! Do you do the run 10 min walk 1 min? When I ran I found that helped me with recovery so I could move faster/longer.

Getting the full 5K done in 30 mins is tough - My best time for completing 5K is 32-33 minutes.

Why don't you focus instead on keeping at the same pace, but adding another 5-10 minutes of running (whatever it takes to get to 5K)?   That's what I did at the end of the C25K training. I ran my first race this weekend and finished it at 34 minutes, and there were another 500 people who completed it later than I did!

Good luck to you as you continue your training!

LOL, set your goal for 40 minutes. My best is 27:38 and that is super-fast. And i'm two years out and training for a marathon. Your time is great, and you are allowed to run longer yanno? You go girl!

Like the rest have  said do the 10 and 1 and as you become a stronger runner you will be able to do a 5 k non stop.  Lets face it you know you are not going to come in first right. This is your first race so set the the goal to just finish. Take that time write it down than you will have something to work towards when you race again. You just aim towards taking time off. tempo run will help build your speed. They are not fun but so worth it.

I have run two 5k runs at 250lbs and it took me 40 mind. I finished but not in 30 minutes. I always ran walk a 5k route and didn't worry about the time and wanted to be more concerned about distance
