For those considering surgery, you might like to read this post. It is by a vet who tells it like it is that although the benefits are great it is also hard work.

Judge your success by what you had to give up in order to get it.

YES, thank you for posting this Pat!! it is very well said!!! some think it's a "get out of jail" pass.. .some have certain operations as a "license to eat" cuz they just don't get it.. some think of it as another "diet"... it's lifelong.. forever and ever and YES you will have to watch what you eat .. forever and ever!  you are given a TOOL, a GIFT.. use it wisely!! and yes..just cuz you get thinner ..you still will have the mental issues to deal with and that may be the hardest part of your journey! good luck to all! and.. THAT'S MY 2 CENTS WORTH!

it's so true.. any idiot can lose weight after WLS, the hard work starts in maintenance, where all your good habits you practiced for the first 18 months out of surgery come into play.  Those who don't heed and adhere to best practice the first 18 months out, you have a rude awakening come maintenance and probably will regain.

Part of this surgery is behaviour modification, which doesnt end when the scale says you have reached your goal. Behaviour mod is MORE important to trying to keep it off.
