Swallowing pills

Just wondering if anyone has info on how far post-op you should be before swallowing pills whole? Mine is for thyroid and it's fairly small. I'm about 2.5 weeks out and was thinking about just splitting it in half instead of crushing it. I can't seem to find anything in my info about a timeframe for this.

In Ottawa we are told that we can immediately swallow any pills the size of an M&M or smaller.  My thyroid pill is smaller than an M&M and I was swallowing them whole post-surgery.

I am the same pal, HRRH allows pills immediately after surgery no larger than an m and m. I waited til my 7th day though as I was still in the hospital for 6 days. 

You could call your surgeons office maybe?

wonderful! Then HRRH changed their policy - and we had the same surgeon I see.

I was not allowed to swallow any pill until 3 months out.

That is great news! Some of those pills were just awful!

Now - I am 10 months out, I take all my meds without crushing - splitting. 

I'll double check with Dr Hagen at my follow-up tomorrow, but based on the M&M analogy it should be ok. I just might lose my mind if i have to have anymore crushed pills in applesauce! Yuck!

I have been taking my medication that is smaller than the M&M from day 1. However, after 2 weeks of a really insane knot in my back, and trying all kinds of topical things - I finally decided to take something tonight and it is big, so I crushed it.
