IV woes

Anyone else had to have a picc line put in for surgery? Yesterday  i met with the anesthetist and he said since my veins were kinda small, i have to a picc line put in.

The doc said i'd have to have it before my surgery day so, i have to go in the day before surgery to have it done. Annoying coz i have to go to the hospital two days in a row.

My daughter had a picc line while she was going through cancer treatment (in remission now for 18 months).  Picc line is very small - like a piece of spaghetti.  They can take blood and give you IV fluids through it.  Don't be nervous, this is much better than having them poke around for veins!  You'll do just fine!

Thanks for the re-assurance. Just annoyed that i have to have a 'procedure' done in the radiology department the day before surgery.

I am glad your daughter is doing well too.

I had to make an extra 2 hour trip to Guelph the day before my surgery to get my pic line in too!

It might seem like a bit of a hassle but it sure saves time and is the safest way to keep everything going

effectively on the day of surgery. I wish you all the best, your surgery must be soon?

I just found out i have to have a PICC Line too.  I saw the anesthetist this past Wednesday.  Our surgery dates must be close...mine is Oct. 30th.
