Head cold and surgery?

I'm coming down with a nasty head cold and have surgery in one week. I also have a raspy cough that's been around since my last cold. Are these anything to worry about with regards to my upcoming surgery? I am headed out the door to get some Cold FX (which I have never actually used before). Any input is appreciated!

Thanks,

Jennifer

enlightenedGosh I hope you feel better soon. I swear by cold fx and took it for years. You should be ok, but it's the cough you may have an issue with. I would let your surgeon know, it's really your anesthesiologist who would call off your surgery if your still ill by then. Just focus on getting well, lots of rest, fluids etc, you know the drill. Do you best to keep your strength up and just make sure you let them know. I am sure a week from now things will be better.

Lots of fluids and rest.    You can be well on the mend in a week.  Hang in there

Exact same thing happened to me - at my PATTS appointment I was so, so sick. The nurse and anaesthesiologist reassured me that as long as I didn't have a fever in the 24 hours before surgery I would be just fine. I took Buckley's cold and sinus tablets and I was pretty much fine by the time surgery day arrived :) Sugar free throat lozenges really helped with the cough I had for post-op too. Somewhere in your paperwork it probably says something about calling them if you have a fever a certain number of hours before surgery, or if your health changes. If none of that applies to you the day before surgery I wouldn't worry about it.

Thanks, everyone.

I see the anesthesiologist on Tuesday so I'll see what he/she says.
