Wanted to reach to everyone and see if anyone had to have gastroscopy done in the process leading up to the surgery. I just got my date today (YAY!!!), but do need to have this procedure done in a few days. Thanks.

Do you mean a gastroscopy? As in a scope down the throat? If so, I've had many.

Did you have it done prior to and as a requirement for this surgery? I went through the whole assessment no problem, but the surgeon wants to make sure I have it done prior to surgery on Dec 4th to make sure it looks good. I'm just worried that it might delay the surgery. I have pretty bad heartburn, I've had since having my two sons. They found me an early date for it so I'm glad it's going to be still 7 weeks before surgery.

A gastrectomy is the removal of all or part of your stomach. I hope you really mean a gastroscopy. I had both a gastroscopy and a colonoscopy before my RNY. They will want to make sure that you don't have any ulcers or polyps etc. It's a very easy procedure and is quite quick. They will put an IV in and give you sedation. You will just have a little nap and recover pretty fast. You will need a ride home though because you shouldn't drive afterwards. Good luck! Christ
