My first Optifast

I just had my first optifast for breakfast this morning. I'm not at all hungry and I'm not thinking of food... I just can't get over the taste! I tried the raspberry chocolate recipe that was in the TWH textbook.

Ew. It tastes like cardboard! Then I tried putting in some flavoured syrup and it made it sweeter... but it still tasted like cardboard. My husband was laughing at me because I kept staring at it like a 5 year old with a disgruntled look on my face. He said "It's not like it's magically going to get delicious, Jenn! Just down it!"

I'm sure I'll get more used to it

Here's to a healthier me! Cheers!

Be sure to add ice!!! That helps with the taste.

Good luck with the rest of the shakes!

Ice definitely helps and my last opti of the day would always be chocolate with a little less water to make it like a pudding just to change it up a bit! You will be fine on Opti ... I managed it for 3 weeks and got through it! You got this! Good luck!

I think it is almost a badge of honour to be able to tolerate opti. There are a few people who actually liked it. I was not one of them. I did three weeks with just decaf coffee crystals.

You can do this

A friend of mine did opti for 4+ months to lose enough to weight to get the RNY instead of the VSG.  I can't even imagine. I'll have to do 3 weeks of opti - and just thinking of him doing months on end is going to be my motivation to get through it.

You got this!!!

Jenn

wow your on day one and I'm on day 2

i hate it Jen, yes it taste like cardboard.

Ive tried like 6 different flavours but in the end it's flavoured cardboard.

Im booked for surgery jan25 and will not risk not having surgery because of cheating. So here it goes. I will suck it up and do it. I have 2 weeks of opti and then surgery so it's really a no brainer. I will complete it and yes jenn you must do the same. Jenn I have followed some of your posts and know you have some really serious discipline. So I have no doubt you can do this.

Good luck I will be following to see you have done this.

Good luck

Hi Simon!

Thank you so much for your support. My surgery is scheduled for January 26th, so we are definitely in this thing together :)

I just made an optifast shake that I didn't absolutely hate!

I used vanilla opti fast, banana extract, about 1/2 teaspoon of cinnamon and a little sprinkle of nutmeg. It tastes nothing like banana bread (which I was going for), but the cinnamon cuts that nasty cardboard taste a little bit!

Give it a try :)

Hey jenn:

Where are you having your surgery.

Mine is at Guelph general by dr Nelong

told he's a real good surgeon. When I met him told me he was the founder of the program in Guelph. Not bad for such a young looking Doctor.

I'm having a lap band removed and revision to RNY.

Told he had 3.5 hrs of OR time booked so it's going to be a bit

of time in the OR.

Hope all goes well for you.

I'm positive you'll do great.

I'm at Toronto Western Hospital :)

I had my pre-admissions appointment yesterday, which also happened to be my first day of optifast. They took almost 12 vials of blood from me! That was not fun at all, considering I wasn't allowed to have any juice or sugars afterward to help me recoup.

Good luck with everything! I'll be waiting to hear that you're home and feeling well :)
