Day 15 Question about binder

My doctor said I could switch to spanx whenever I am ready and stop wearing the binder. I find that the spanx doesn't really make me feel secure and I have more swelling so I have been sticking to the binder. When did you switch and what did you switch to?

Thanks,

Jen

I used the compression garment for 6 weeks.  It was comfortable and I felt secure in it.  Spanx has never worked for me - it's always cutting into something.  If the binder is comfortable, keep using it.

My doctor basically said you can't have too much compression.  After six weeks I didn't need anything but before that I wore a compression top, shorts, and the abdominal binder 24/7.

I switched to a Cupid high waisted panty I got from Wal Mart. It has the hook and eye similar to my binder so I did not have to tug the spanx over my incisions and it gave me a lot of compression (just not as bulky as my compression garment)

Thanks, guys. I guess I will stick to the binder for awhile while trying out different options. The binder isn't very comfortable and spanx isn't enough compression.  I also like the idea of the hook and eye closure.

I am 4 months out and still wear my binder sporadically. I never felt like Spanx were helpful. I still swell and so I wear the binder occasionally. Depends on the day.

I got the OK this week from my PS to lose the binder (4 12 weeks out from tummy tuck/hysterectomy) because it is irritating my incision on the sides.  He told me to wear it when I knew I'd be on my feet a lot.  As much as I've hated the binder at times, I feel more secure with it on for the support!  Spanx just is too hard to get on and off. I bought some Yummy Tummy tanks which aren't as bad as Spanx so maybe those will help some.  I am enjoying not sleeping in my binder but wore the binder most of the day.  Guess I'm going to have to wean myself off of it!!

Many of my patients feel more comfortable and supportive in the binder and that is just personal preference. Dr.Domanskis
