Who had a sleeve to bypass?

Hi, anyone here get a revision from sleeve to gastric bypass? I was sleeved in 2010 and lost 120lb. Now I'm up 35lb but would love to lose 50lb. My body's metabolism is the way it was before the sleeve (I still have restriction) but can't lose a substantial amount despite regular exercise and watching diet. The weight slowly crept up and Iv been playing with the same 10lbs for the past 2 years. I don't have gerd at all, I'm doing this for the added restriction and weight loss. I'm curious of others results with this. I'm skeptical bc online I'm seeing that with a second surgery an average weight loss is 25lbs. That's not very much for such a drastic and costly surgery. Would love to hear your results.

I revised from VSG to RNY because of severe GERD. I was about 12lbs from goal when I had my surgery (I was at goal, but gained from consuming too many crackers to soak up the acid). My surgeon told me that loss after revision is very slow and it may take me a year to lose the 12. It did not and I'm back at goal, but others I know *****vised because of acid have had slow loss.

Sorry I can't be of more help or more optimistic.

Hi Sarah,

My revision from sleeve to RNY is next week on the 11th July. I had a band first in 2003 and lost 154 lbs. Then the band slipped, I regained 56 lbs and it was removed and I was sleeved in 2008. I lost an additional 71 pounds . My highest weight was 348. My lowest weight was 165.

Due to GERD and regain of 50 lbs of the nearly 200 I lost over 14 years, I am getting the RNY. I am sure that it will be slower, but it really depends on how close you are to goal, what your pre and post op commitment is to getting the weight off since you will have a window with malabsorption that you dont have with the sleeve. My plan is to get to goal and exceed my lowest weight with the sleeve which means losing more than 50 lbs like yourself. The problem with the sleeve is that it gets larger over time. My endoscopy showed a medium sized stomach, chronic gastritis and I take two meds for GERD. With no malabsorption and a regular sized tummy (due to stretching, poor compliance at 9 years out and a sleeve size that was a bigger bougie ) I can eat like a regular person. For me this is a reset and a chance to get rid of reflux and have some restriction again since they will tighten up my sleeve/pouch.

I am a firm believer you get what you put into it even if your metabolism sucks. It just means working harder and never breaking the rules about quantity and type of food.

Hey, how are you doing now that it has been a few weeks since your revision? I hope it's been an easy recovery. Are you having any good weight loss yet? I appreciated your response to this thread and I found it really encouraging. "You get what you give" I'll give 100 percent.

HI,

Thanks for asking. I am 12 days out and lost 11 pounds. A few pounds was bloating from surgery. My stomach has a lot of distress so I am hoping that will simmer down once I am eating mushy food.
