HELP

I am 15 days post op and had my 1st drs appt. on Wednesday. He said I was doing great I ask about chewing gum because its something that I enjoy. He told me to give it a try and if it didn't hurt I could do it. Well I have been chewing gum since Wednesday and no problem but today I sallowed it by accident do you think I will be OK?

Stormy, you should be okay. I asked my surgeon if I could chew gum (sugarless of course) and he said yes. I asked him what would happen if I swallowed it and he said, more than likely it would just sit in my pouch for a few days because gum is very hard to break down. He did not say it would cause any severe problems (I am 16 weeks post-op).

I swallowed gum on accident twice and I was fine. I switched to mints just in case, though. I shouldn't chew gum with my crappy jaw, anyway...
