Trouble with pics

HI!! I'm new to this site and i am having trouble uploading a avatar pic..It keeps saying my pic is too big then i made it smaller and it's still saying it's toooo big!!! grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr

I've been having trouble changing my Avatar too. One computer its Tinkerbell which I want and yet on another computer it's my old picture. I don't know how to fix it either.

I finally had to open my picture in Paint and save as a low resolution JPG or GIF.  It made it grainy but at least it went in.
