Birth Control Question

I have never been pregnant and I do not have children.  I would like to have children in the future in maybe a year or two.  I know that as an RNY that birth control pills are not fully obsorbed.  I looked at an IUD and the NuaRing.  The IUD scares me because I have never have kids and there is risk of effecting having future children.  But I am worried that the NuvaRing will be unconfortable.  Anyone have the NuvaRing and is it confortable, east put in and remove?  Do you like it?

I have an IUD (the copper T). I have not had any problems with it, I have had it for 3 1/2 years now. I chose it because it does not have any medication in it what so ever and I can wait to have it removed up to 10 years.

I tried NuvaRing but I hated it. I could feel it!

Everybody is different do the research and find what's right for you.

Good luck!

I had an IUD 25++ years ago and I went on to have to healthy babies (one aged 21 and one 8). The reason some doctors don't like putting in an IUD if you haven't had babies is because your cervix has never been opened and so it is less "pliable" - same for women who have had c-sections!!!!

I just had a Mirena put in a month ago and it was completely painless.

I find a Nurse Practioner is much more up to date and skilled in IUD placement (and contraception in general) - see if your OB/GYN office has one that can discuss these methods with you!

I am on the nuvaring and love it. It is a little bit hard to put in at first, but gets easier the more you use it. I can't feel mine at all altho my husband can but it doesn't bother him at all.

The only thing I really don't like about it is if you use tampons it sometimes comes out so on your period you have to keep checking to make sure it's in.

I use to use the nuvraring pre op and I did like it. i rarely felt it but my boyfriend at that time could during sex. But it didnt bother him much at all. However, I am having mirena put in in three weeks! I have not had any children and my Dr stated there may be more cramping when putting it in but she will give me some medication that may help soften my cervix.

Dee - what are they going to give you? My gyn just gave me an rx of Percocet for my Mirena tomorrow..... never have had kids either so kinda dreading the pain! Didn't know they had something to soften the cervix. Also heard that it may help to push out when the gyn does the insertion, as the tendency to pull in or tense muscles in response to pain can actually make the pain worse! (I'll be lucky if I can remember that advice tomorrow.... may be easier said than done!).

I thought I would throw out another option for you, it is the one I chose.  I also have never been pregnant but would still like to try again in a few years.  I chose the Implanon, it is a single rod placed in the inner, upper arm right in the doctor's office.  It last 3 years.

Here is the website and info:
