You can drink it whenever it works best for you. It can be a meal, a snack or just a healthy beverage to have throughout the day.

Any time is fine in fact i was having trouble drinking all the water i needed and the protein shakes so my nutritionist suggested me dringing 2 protein shakes and water in the morning untill lunc the wait 30 min have lunch then wait 30 have water ect it was the best thing i could have done seeing as i wasnt a breakfast person before the surgery
You can count your protein drink as a meal if you want because it's
protein, but anything liquid also counts as well.....liquid. For example,
I add up all my liquids as "water", but I still count the protein in them
to hit my 60-70 grams of protein for the day. If I have a protein drink
for an afternoon snack, I also count it towards my fluids for the day.
