1 YEAR SURGIVERSAY AND ALMOST TO MY GOAL!
I had RNY on 1/28/11 and weighed in at 295.0 lbs that morning. This morning I weighed in at 169.4 for a loss of 125.6 since my surgery date and a total of 148.8 since my highest weight of 318.2 on 11/01/10. I have not had any complications other than diarrhea if I eat something that has too many sugars in it! I threw up a total of 3 times early on [eating too fast and not chewing enough].
I went from a size 28 pants to a size 12 and from a 3x shirt to a size 16. I've lost 13.5" in my waist, 14" in my chest, 5" in each calf, 5" in each upper arm, 12" in each thigh, and 16.5" in my hips! That's over 85" total!!!!!!!!! The only area I'd love to see shrink a little more are my hips (maybe another inch or two). I am aiming to hit 165 (just over 5 more lbs) in the next few months and then hopefully hit my ultimate goal of 159 by the end of summer.
My surgeon's office felt that I should be able to weigh in at 186 at the 18 month mark and have exceeded that by over 16 lbs already! So as far as they are concerned I am a success!
It seems my iron levels are low, but I've increased my iron intake and will have another lab done soon to check the levels.
I am so glad I found this site - I read postings everyday and respond to some. I absolutely love the atmosphere of the forum and I've learned so much about the process over the last year!
Good luck to those "in waiting" and those already on the loser's bench! Hopefully your journey will be as smooth as mine has been.

I too had low iron and did not want to do supplements. I remembered when I was younger and had anemia the Dr told me to cook in cast iron pans. So I got out a small and large fry pan and use them 3-4 times a week and mine was right where it was supposed to be the next time I had blood work done. If use add a tomato sauce to the meat in the cast iron it like triples the iron you get.
I don't know how sucessful I would have been if not for this site. I knew to be prepared for stalls, which I had, that my hair might fall out, and it did.
Anyway, good luck to you. I understand the easy part is over now and the hard part, maintenance is just beginning. I hope I am ready for it.
