Timing of Diabetes Remission

I was wondering about the timing of diabetic remission due to surgery. I had surgery last Wednesday. My sugars have been ranging from 94-114, but this morning my first check of the day (fasting) was 126. Does this mean that part of the surgery is a fail? Or does it take some time to settle down? I know weight loss will help, but I was wondering about surgery alone. TIA.

Blood sugars can be very up and down after surgery. I was taken off Metformin a week and a half post-op because I was bottoming out in the 70s regularly. My A1C has consistantly been 6.9 or less since surgery. I think the "timeline" for remission is different for everyone, and you are not at all yet a failure - it sounds like you are on the path to remission to me! Good luck :)

Don't worry. Just follow healthy eating and your doctor's guidance. I stopped
taking diabetes meds the week before surgery and haven't been back on
them since. My sugars have been moving steadily down. My last A1c 9
months after surgery was 5.6. The timing and pace of remission will vary
based on a number of factors...where you diabetes was at the time of
surgery, what type of meds you were on- oral vs. insulin, how long you
had diabetes etc.  Keep up the hard work and good luck!

I had been diagnosed as diabetic for 6 years before my surgery.  Medication had been keeping it under control.  I took my last med about 3 days before my surgery and never have needed them.  I am 4 years out next month and my A1cs have been great.
Good luck and hang in there.

I was technically a boarderline Diabetic. My HGA1C was 6.0. I'm only a little less than 4 months out, and when I last checked my HGA1C was 5.5 (no longer a boarderline). I suspect time will tell, and you will do fine. Best wishes!
