Just a question,
My surgery is set for March 12th. RNY. My surgeon has decided for a 2 week liquids and 1 meal diet started on the 27th. I am getting quesy everyday. It has gotten to the point of having to eat a few multigrain crackers to get it to let up for a little while. Anyone else have this problem? I am having my protein shake for breakfast and lunch but the sicknes****s and I have to eat something. I don't want to mess up and not loose any weight but I really can't stand it. I have to go see my doctor Wednesday the 7th so I guess if there is a problem he will tell me. Just looking for some encouragement,I guess. Maybe just sympathy. Thanks
RNY on 02/16/12
cheysma, I started out okay on the protein liquids but, like you, I got real queasy and started throwing them up. Still can't stand them (2 weeks post-op). GNC or The Vitamin Shoppe has isopure protein drinks in a BOTTLE. (Don't like the powder there either!) I can keep down the grape and punch. You might try them and see if they work. I ate sf jello and sf popsicles were great!
It is probably the protein shakes. I still get quesy if I try a protein drink. The only one that I found that I could stand was at Smoothy King - The Gladiator. It's only 180 calories and 43 grams of protein for a 20 oz smoothie. You get to pick the 2 fruit flavors so you can customize it. I like it with strawberry lemon. Give that a try and see if you feel better.
Now that I am 6 months out, I have exchanged protein shakes for protein bars. The Atkins bars and the Premier Protein bars (Sam's & Costco) are really good.
Just give it some time and you will find what works best for you.
Good luck & don't give up!!

Hi everyone, my surgery is March 12th too. I just have to do total clear liquids 3-days before the surgery day.
I am pretty nervous. I had the lapband surgery five years ago and it just about killed me. I had two slips, developed bleeding ulcers, had aspiration pneumonia 3 times and when I layed down everything in my pouch ran out of my nose. I ended up anemic and had to sleep sitting straight up in a chair. Finally, it was removed (then I had an emergency appendectomy a month later!!) I was sick for four years straight from that lapband. My body just did not like it.
I exercised and ate right and really thought I could at least maintain what I had lost but our bodies fight us all the way. It is truly a hopeless battle. I then tore both of my meniscuses getting out of a friends car and as my knees got more and more painful, I could hardly move, sleep, walk or move. I now use a walker - so humiliating.
Finally, I realized the RNY was inevitable but after the experience with the lapband I am afraid to feel hopeful.

I lived off my watered down apple juice to keep the quesyness away. I also lived off of jello and sf fudge pops. String cheese was a big thing later on for me too but I overdid it and have a hard time eating it now. Just find the few things that work and go at them full tilt. Sorry I couldn't be more help!
