make sure you are getting enough fiber (I get between 30-40 a day) and some good fats.

I just had that problem this week and did mirilax 2x a day along with extra magnesium and I used a suppository.
Also had my pharmacist order a liquid stool softener as I was told we don't absorb all of the gel tabs
Good luck cause that is miserable!!!

I had a similar post last week. I waqs very backed up with hard stool that I could not get out. Since then I have had it again.
The advice I got here and confirmed with my doctor and pharmacist is the following:
-if hard stool is the issue take stool softeners every 60-120 mins (was told by pharmacist that taking every 1-2 hours can't hurt you other then maybe diarhea after you pass the stool but that is a trade off I was willing to make vs being backed up for 3 days)
-take milk of magesia 2 oz twice a day (about 4 hours apart)
it may take 4-5 hours before you pass a movement but it will be softened up and pass easier.
going forward
-add fiber to your diet (benefiber or a similar)
-add magnesium pills to your supplements
-use Miralax as needed
