First holiday post RNY with a kindly saboteur!
Hello folks! I made it through my first holiday but with a kindly saboteur. I cooked the entire Thanksgiving dinner with almost all the fixings. My family ate like the typically do. I had a small piece of turkey, one Tbsp. of dressing, and one Tbsp. of mashed potatoes.
I said to my husband, "Wow, my head is telling me to eat more but I'm not hungry. I just usually have seconds on Thanksgiving." I was fine with the portion I had...about a 1/2 or 3/4 cup of food. He said, "Oh, just wait a few minutes and have more." Needless to say, I did not. AND we discussed it on our daily post meal walk that he should not encourage additional eating.
I'm pleased to say that I did not have seconds, nor did I eat pumpkin pie. I did, however, have a Weigh****chers ice cream bar as a treat.
Did any of you have to deal with saboteurs this Thanksgiving?
It is worth saying that I am so very thankful for a second chance at health. At this time last year, I did not think I was long for this Earth. Now? I think I'm going to be here a long time.
Cheers!
Karen
It always worries me when I see people say they took an hour (or two) to eat something or they "eat they rest" when the first amount has gone down. These are SLIPPERY SLOPES!!!
Eat the amount you can in 20 mins or so and then THAT's IT until your next scheduled meal (snack)!!
Good for you that you recognise that this is NOT good practice for the long term ...

This was my first Thanksgiving after WLS( my date was 9/18) I cooked a turkey and I caught myself not being mindful as we were talking and eating and I caught myself and stopped from taking that extra bite that would have put me over the limit.. I gave it to the dog instead and then put my plate and utensils away and returned to the table and enjoyed the conversation.. instead of pumpkin pie I had a pumpkin protein pancake bite. I don't feel I missed a thing and I am so thankful for this new chance! Happy Thanksgiving All!

I imagine he thought he was trying to be helpful. I made the entire meal this year. I we ate at noon. I did really good and even made a sugar free pumpkin pie with pecan crust so I wouldn't feel "left out". I predicated that I would want seconds, not because I was hungry but because that is what I have done for 39 years. So instead of having immediate seconds, I reheated my seconds for dinner. It worked! I never felt deprived. And for the first year ever, I didn't gain a single pound!!!!!
I really believe that all of us should be proud! Even if someone didn't do exactly what they should have (not saying anyone didn't do as they should have.), we are all on our way to a healthier life. Each holiday after RNY is a major milestone. We can choose to step away from the table, and for many people like me, this is the first time we can do that!
I bought this book for my wonderful husband when I was dealing with other issues but I also read it myself growing up with a few alcoholics. (hey, addictions are addictions).

Now I'm not telling anyone how to deal with their issues but I cannot say enough positive stuff about this book and all the ah ha moments I had when I read it and passed it on.
