Could it be real?

I had my surgery last week and besides being a little sore, I don't feel like I had surgery.  I have not puked at all, I have not had any diarrhea and I can tolerate everything I have eaten so far.  Don't get me wrong, I'm following my diet and not cheating at all but I feel normal.  I have been watching a lot of food porn lol and I don't know if that has anything to do with it but I'm starting to feel some hunger.

Oh man, I love Man vs. Food! lol I guess I just need some support.  I have been feeling obsessed with this site lately because it seems like I have nowhere else to turn to.  My family understands what I am going through but they still forget and start talking about all the things I'll "never get to eat again".

At this point,  post op, you could be needing to drink more....I've found that when I feel that way, especially between meals it's my body's way of nudging me to drink more, and it help.  I love Adam Richman...what a cutie.  Food porn helped me get over those longings for food, especially when you witness how much that boy has to eat to beat a challenge!  Don't think of certain foods as "never get to eat again", as you may want to in moderation at some point in the future, and thinking of food in those terms gives it the forbidden fruit appeal.  My head still wants what it wants, and I've had to learn, sometimes the hard way what I just can't tolerate anymore.   Congrats on the surgery!!

My recovery was very easy.  I was allowed real food at 7 days out and never vomited until I was around 2 years out (or more, can't remember when exactly).  I've puked 3 times in almost 8 years and it was on beef roast EVERY time.

Food network was my post-op obesssion early out.....I still love to cook, collect recipes and cookbooks.  As for never eat again, more than likely you'll at least try "everything" again.  You may be able to eat it, maybe not.

Drink lots of liquids, it really does help recognize head hunger vs. true hunger.  My hunger signal still today is very light in recognizing it.  Once you are allowed meats you'll feel the restriction.

I felt exactly the same way early on. It wasn't until I started trying to eat solid foods, meats in particular, that I finally felt as if I'd had the surgery. I went through months of food intolerance, meats again, then I had a problem with one of my meds giving everything I ate a heavy metallic taste. I became so desperate to eat anything that wouldn't taste bad or make me sick that I started eating almost nothing but crackers and potato chips. Now its being horribly difficult to get back on track.  I hope you continue to follow your plan and have much success!

I felt as though I had done a million sit ups, but never felt any pain.  Recovery was pretty easy.

You will not feel the restriction at first, that is why it's important to measure.  Believe me, you will feel it in a few weeks.  Be sure to get all your protein and water in each day.

You will eat again...and enjoy food again, just in a different way.  I had pizza tonight, something I wasn't sure I would be able to have...I also had 2 ravioli yesterday for dinner!

There are probably very few things, if any, that you'll never get to eat again.  Just not for a while.

I agree with Kelly. I'm 2.3 years out and I can eat anything and everything - in smaller amounts. I have to chose not to.

Stay away from the 'non-WLS friendly' foods as long as you can. If you try a certain food and you can tolerate it, you are likely to eat more of it.

Take the first year and stay on plan and get off as much weight as you can.

All the best to you!

MOST people don't have vomiting, etc. and have little or no trouble eating post-op. It is just that you just READ more about people who DO have trouble because they post more. I didn't throw up anything until I was 18 months out (dry chicken eaten too quickly), and encountered only 5 things that it physically bothered me to eat or drink. (Three of them still bother me at 5 years out, and are weird things: onion rings, which are crappy anyway, many apple peels, and the membrane around citrus fruit segments.)

I also watched a lot of food shows early out. That faded once I could eat a much wider variety of foods, and it didn't seem to make me want to eat (I was on soft foods on Day Three, so I was eating very early out)... I just enjoyed watching them make all these delicious foods.

I find it kind of ironic that my surgeon -- and a number of others that I know of -- put people back on soft food right away because she found that people who were on a long period of liquids and/or purées post-op generally had a harder time with eating solid food again. I cannot help but think of that every time I see a post here about someone who is trying to adjust to adding soft foods into their diet, because it is almost always someone who spent several weeks "babying" their pouch with liquids and/or purées!

Thanks to everyone who posted here!  This was very educational for me.  I too was wondering why I felt So good and felt such little restriction.  Good to know that once I start eating meats (christmas day!!) I'll feel more restriction!  Been relying on measuring and calorie counting up to this point!  There is light at the end of the tunnel :)  YAY!
