How about aiming for a healthy body fat percentage? The BMI charts are flawed and do not take into account muscle mass and bone structure. It is possible to have a BMI in the normal range and still have too much body fat, just as it is to have an optimal body fat percentage and still be in the overweight range.
Also, how is your doctor calculating your excess weight?

My surgeon stated that the average is 60% of your excess weight is lost for RNY patients; but she thought I should be around 208lbs in a years time. But goals were up to me. She told me that the charts state a person of my height 5'3" should be around 126lbs. I started this journey at 357lbs, so you could imagine my expression & thoughts on that....LOL....At 5 months or was it 4 months; I was down 100 pounds already....so the first goal that was based on the average weight loss, is close at hand! I agree with the other person that posted about the charts being off.....Those BMI charts have never been updated since someone came up with them.
