Our oldest grandson is autistic--high functioning but still has moments when life is hard for him. As you know prom season is right around the corner--he's in high school and although the kids he goes to school with have never excluded him from anything, dating and girlfriends just haven't caught up with him. We found out last night he has been asked to the prom !! This is a girl who is very popular and could go with anyone. They have been friends forever, are on the schools bowling teams and they share a deep passion for our local OHL hockey team. He is excited about going--I don't know if he realizes this is a major high school event or if he's excited because everyone else is excited about going to the prom--lol. She is at his house right now--trying to teach him some dance steps!! She said that way he will be part of the whole experience !! what a sweetheart she is and what a great friend. With all the bad things you hear about kids today it's does this gramma's heart good to know there are still caring teenagers out there.  laugh

How lovely!   My nearly 10 year old son has classic autism and I hope he gets to be treated the same one day.   I hope your grandson has a fabulous time and the young lady's parents should be so proud of her!!

I have the same wish for your grandson--I hope a special friend comes into his life like it did our grandson. I will keep him in my prayers.

I know what you mean--you get so used to hearing all the bad that's out there it so good to be able to share in something so good.

Isn't that wonderful.  My 11-year-old grandson has some issues and is highly emotional but everyone just loves him.  Last week he won 2nd place in his school talent contest singing a country song.  He was so proud, as were we.  He even made the local newspaper!
