Actual Sugar Ok.. Sugar Alcohol.. Oh God!
So, through small experimentation I have to come to find out that my stomach is actually okay with regular sugar.
No, I'm not eating sugar filled foods by any means. I stay within the guidelines set by my Dr. But, when I try sugar-free foods, oh lord have mercy, it's no good! Dump-central! (on a joking note, it's a great way to move past a plateau!)
I'm just wondering how that can be? Anyone else experience this?

I am far more sensitive to sugar alcohols than real sugar. The sugar alcohols cause gas and diarrhea and sometimes cramping at far lower levels than the amout of sugar it takes to make me dump.

You don't drown by falling in the water. You drown by staying there.

Sugar alcohols can have side effects - including a laxative effect and (for us) a generally yucky feeling.
However, be very careful about "testing" sugar tolerance. If you dump, you'll regret it. And if you don't, you've opened a dangerous Pandora's box.
Jus****ch nutrition labels carefully and limit the sugar alcohols to a level that you are comfortable with. I do well with Pure Protein bars or Quest bars (no sugar alcohols at all). But....a serving of no sugar added ice cream can make me feel queasy for the entire evening.
I cannot handle sugar or sugar alcohol. I ate some sugar free wafer cookies on Thusrday night and it was not pretty. I did not have the shaking and chills but I had nausea, cramping, diahhrea. I sure do miss sweets. : )
