Eating too fast! Help!

I've been having a problem with eating too fast.  I understand the importance of slowing down so that we don't consume too much too quickly, before the message gets to our brains that we are full.  I've tried to slow down, use a child's spoon and fork, but sometimes I find that I'm just eating too quickly.  Short of super gluing my hand to the table, does anyone have any suggestions or tricks to get this habit more firmly entrenched?  Thanks for any suggestions.

At my visit with my GP she suggested to get a timer and set it to 30 seconds in between  each bite. Also she asked me to put down the spoon / fork between each bite . Hope it helps . Bibi

I used to eat really fast and it's been hard to slow down, but you can do it. Put your fork down like the previous poster recommended, take really small bites, chew 20-30 times - COUNT eat chew - and you will slow down :)

Focus on chewing everything to mush (not just to small chunks), and put your utensils down and place your hands in your lap for 20-30 seconds between bites of food.

There are apps available on the iPhone I know. Just look up bite timer and there are a few apps to choose from. I have the same problem. Good luck!

I didn't know there was such a thing as a bite timer! See, you learn something new every day.

I use an app too. It's amazing how much slower I eat when I am making an a conscience effort to slow down.

I definitely need to work on this as well. I was trying tonight by putting down my fork between bites. I still ate too fast. I will have to look into this bite app. That might do the trick for me. Thanks for posting this.
