Having seconds thoughts about type of surgery
Don't discount the third option: the duodenal switch (DS). The DS has malabsorption as well as the stomach of a VSG. One important difference between the RNY and the DS is that you retain your pyloric valve with the DS.
There are pros and cons for each surgery, of course. But if you're going to fully research WLS, you need to look into all options.

I was told the DS was only for the super obese. One surgeon said it was for those with at least 250 lbs to lose. Is that not the case?
HW333--SW 289--GW of 160 5' 11" woman. I only know the way I know & when you ask for input/advice, you'll get the way I've been successful through my surgeon & nutritionist. Please consult your surgeon & nutritionist for how to do it their way. Biggest regret? Not doing this 10 years ago! Every day is better than the day before...and it was a pretty great day!
Nope - even lightweights are getting it done. I had a BMI of about 48, but most insurance companies only require you to have at least a 40 BMI (or 35 BMI with comorbidities).
