questions for those who still cook for the family after WLS
I cook from scratch too, but a taste is just a taste, not a heaping great spoonful!!!! You need to retrain yourself on how much food constitutes a taste and how much is a helping if you think a taste is a problem ... If it's something you make regularly, you probably know your recipe from heart and so really don't need to taste it. Alternatively, ask your husband or kids or whoever to taste it for you - if it's for them anyway!
Spitting out food after it is in your mouth is not only pretty disgusting , it also counts as disordered eating and is NOT something that should be encouraged pre or post op

In the months post op where my diet was very limited (like the liquid and pureed phases) I stuck to very simple meals that I didn't have to taste. Once I could join in the meals, I moved to simple meals that were WLS friendly in part. So I always had a potatoes or pasta or rice on the table, but not mixed in, so that I could go without it. I went pretty quickly to my normal way of cooking adjusting for my needs. Spaghetti and Meatballs night, became meatballs for me with sauce, spaghetti and garlic bread and salad for them. Once I could eat a little more, it became meatballs and salad for me. I make a lot of NON-casserole dishes, that are protein and fresh vegetable heavy and where the carbs can be separated out from the meal.
