Protein Shakes: Meal or liquid?

Hey OH community,

I am slightly confused about protein shakes.  I use Syntrax Nectar in Cappuccino, and it is delish.  I usually make it with unsweetened almond milk and a couple of ice cubes.  Do shakes count towards your daily water intake, or should they be counted as a meal, or both?  I am 16 days post op, and while I have no problem getting my liquids down, what I can eat is minimal, so I am now trying to up my protein intake, to the 40-60 gram range, while since surgery it has been around 15 grams daily.  Any advice is useful.  Thanks in advance!

They count as both.  Record the protein, calories and fluid.

Since it has protein and calories, I could a shake as a meal (or a snack) but since it is a liquid, I also count it as a liquid.

I have been wondering the same thing. I assumed it counted as liquids and in the hospital, the nurse when I was discharged told me it counted as my liquids, but I have sample menus and they have protein shakes listed as an option for snacks and meals.

It counts as both, I mean why wouldn't a liquid count as a liquid? I see some surgeons say not to count it, mine did count it, saying he couldn't fathom why some would say not to...it's also a meal/snack replacement.
