not trying to start a fight but here are some good articles about dumping syndrome
From my perspective, if you ever dump for real, you will understand what the rest of us are talking about - there is no doubting it when it is happening!
My boyfriend has witnessed it quite a few times with me and yet still asked me last night if he needed to call an ambulance - it is THAT debillatating ...

As I said, when you experience it, you will know! Believe what you will ... I have nothing invested in whether you dum*****t. I hope you don't because it is not something I would wish on my worst enemy, but you want to believe you do, so have at it!!!
I suppose I just don't understand why proving that YOU dump in a different way to everyone else is so important too you - like there's a prize or something?
ETA: You are 3 weeks out? How are you ingesting ANYTHING that makes you dump? See you in 6 months - we'll talk then!

When we say sugars, we also mean carbs as they turn into sugars.

You and your doctor are correct "dumping syndrome" can happen with anything, and it can also happen to those who have not had WLS. In individuals who have not had WLS it is usually referred to rapid gastric emptying. "Dumping" occurs because there is a rapid change in the osmolarity of the small intestine.
Monosaccharides (i.e. glucose, galactose, and fructose) are readily absorbed in the small intestine, therefore polysaccharides (e.g. simple carbs) must be converted to monosaccharides through hydrolysis- a chemical reaction that requires water. When this occurs it shifts the osmotic (water) balance in the intestine, and if it occurs too quickly ( because you don't have a pyloric valve) it produces the symptoms associated with "dumping". This is why "dumping" is most often associated with carbs, especially simple carbs. However, this does not mean that only carbs can cause dumping because other monomers (e.g. amino acids) can have osmotic effects too.
For brevity sake, this is a simplified explanation. If you are interested in more of the scientific details let me know. I am a molecular biologist so this is the type of stuff that rocks my socks :)
Thank you for sharing :)
I haven't had this problem, but I like to educate myself about things that may come up.

Only dumped once - someone made me a protein shake and added scoops of ice cream to it. That was painful......the things you dumped on - watermelon = water, sugar; potato soup = carbs and probably fat; fried food speak for themselves re the fat content, shakes - depends what they are made of (see my comment!) and meat loaf can contain a lot of fat, bread crumbs, sugar...or just be too dry ....as we have all seen from the above posts, we are all different and you never know what may or may not work, nor why. I still can't each much bread and I am 3+ years. It seems to scratch my innards, so I just avoid it. Also avoid rice, potatoes, pasta, as I feel I get enough carbs from the veggies and beans I eat and don't need to add the white processed stuff, etc to my diet. IMHO!!!
