Pregnancy after RNY
Thought this might be the best place to see peoples thoughts/experiences other than posting on my other boards that are not RNY related. I'm 5 years post-op and currently trying to get pregnant/might be pregnant (in the two week waiting period).
I just wanted to see what other peoples experiences were with eating enough food, morning sickness, etc. Does morning sickness tend to hit people sooner?
My doctors are fully aware of my RNY, but have not suggested anything in particular.
Thanks in advance for any help/information.
At 5 years out, your pregnancy should be just like anyone elses!!! You should be taking a folic acid supplement (as should anyone hoping to get pregnant) at this point but other than that, as long as your labs are good and they will be checked regularly, you should progress well. If there are any worries, I'm sure you'll be referred to a fetal/maternal medicine specialist.
I've not been pregnant since RNY (that ship has long sailed) but I am a non-practising midwife.

I am 5 1/2 years post op.
My first pregnancy was with twins. My little girl had IUGR and failed to grow, unrelated to the gastric bypass surgery. I had zero morning sickness (with twins!) and no issues between the pregnancy and gastric bypass surgery. Due to my daughter's condition, I was placed on a high protein diet. Since I was in the maintenance phase of my surgery (2.5 years post op) I simply added a protein shake a day. While my daughter did not make it, my son did and was born early and still clocked in at 5lbs 6oz.
My second pregnancy went along swimmingly. I even breastfed my son for the first trimester of it, consumed normal foods and experienced zero morning sickness. My daughter was born at a whopping 8lbs, 5oz.
I have been either pregnant and/or breastfeeding since 2010 and am very healthy as are my two children.
Hope this helps a bit!
