I walk 3 miles 5 days a week but after my surgery I am going to join my old Gym (even though it's a distance ). I was just wondering as I know I will be needing weight training also .

I started walking right away.  Helped with gas.  Even 10 minutes was a help.  I have a treadmill.  I'm working my way up. Doing 30 min 5 days a week at 3 miles an hour.

I think the third link is especially useful, since it talks about how a fitness professional can help a bariatric patient transition to a healthier lifestyle. I've given a copy to my personal trainer so he can use it to come up with a new plan.

I started walking one week after surgery.  At my one month appointment I was given permission by my surgeon to do all exercise so I joined a gym.  My advice us to speak to your surgeon; you want to make sure you are healed before you begin anything strenuous.  Good luck

Your doctor or his PA should have guidelines for their recommendation.  Walking is encouraged right away but gym exercise might be anywhere from 8 to 12 weeks.  Ask your doctor.  They may have given you a packet of info to cover vitamins to exercise….mine did.

I just went to my follow up appointment today from my surgery 10 days ago.  The dr. Told me I should be stretching, exercising to work up a sweat, using weights or lift a gallon of milk.  He said this was to help your body get back to the new normal it will be.

I was released as soon as I could consume 700-800 calories, which is where he thought I'd be at 3 mo, it took me to 6 mo to be consistently getting in that many so I wouldn't throw my body into starvation mode, I went to gym got a hernia and honestly have not been back.
