Dilemma

At only 9 days out. the program requires 800 calories and 75 grams of protein per day. I am in the puree stage now. Last night I had all my protein in but needed 197 calories. What would you have done? I drank another Boost, which put me way over in protein but almost gave me the 197 calories. Did I do the right thing?

Personally, if I had reached my protein goal, I would have skipped the remaining calories. Going over on your protein is a good thing, don't worry about that. Protein numbers are minimums, not maximums, while calorie numbers are maximums, not minimums.

You can't go wrong following your program closely.

Thank you Grim! The manual I am following made it sound as if I had to meet both protein and calories. I will concentrate on proteins more now. I am having no trouble getting anything in at 9 days out if I eat eat/drink slow enough.

Thanks for another piece of great advice You rock!

What he said.

And to add to it. One of the effects of WLS is limiting calories via restriction.  So once you have reached your goals for essential nutrients (protein, vitamins, minerals) dont worry about getting extra calories in because the surgery ultimately limits calorie intake.

I am 7.5 months out and I'm thrilled when I get close to 80 grams of protein.  I try hard to hit 700 calories a day, I never go hungry.  Protein and water is my priority.

9 days out congratulations on striving faithfully.

I would not have done that. My surgeon wanted us to focus on protein and water in the beginning. I would not force myself to eat so early out. I probably got around 500-600 calories the first few weeks.

Boost is not the best choice, unfortunately.  I don't know which kind you had but Boost High Protein has 240 calories and 33 grams of carbs for 27 grams of protein.  You can get better stats with Syntrax Nectars, which has 23 grams of protein with no carbs if mixed with water.  Or try finding a good protein powder you like and mixing it was almond milk instead of milk for fewer calories and carbs.
