Has anyone had one. I had RNY 2006 and no complications now they want to do a colonscopy because of age and Iron came back so low. I am 67 yrs old. I am nervous about this. Anyone have anything to put my mind at ease???

The prep is the worse part about it, truly. The procedure is very, very simple, just a bit tired that day. The prep, the best advice that I can give is stay very, very close to your bathroom. maybe even in it the whole time. LOL

Hi. I would not stress about the procedure. I am 45 and have had 4 in the past 8 years due to family history and discovered polyps. The previous poster is right. The prep is the worst part. I was out like a light for the first two and then switched insurance and the last 2 I have been semi-conscious. Either way was just fine. Just don't plan on doing anything for the day of prep and the day of the procedure.

I wish you well!

Piece of cake - certainly nothing to worry about.  I was awake but loopy for mine and had a nice chat with the doc

I am 37 (was 36 when I had my colonoscopy) and I DREADED the prep!!!! I told my Gastroenterologist about my surgery and he gave me some sort of concentrated prep and told me to just drink all that I could in the alloted time (he even extended the time by 4 hours to give my body enough time to cleanse itself). I didn't even get HALF of it drank, but apparently it was enough because they said I was completely cleansed and they were able to remove 2 cancerous polyps! (one medium sized and one very large sized). Be up front with your doctor and ask about concentrated prep- they will understand if you aren't able to drink all that gross stuff because you CANNOT physically do it (as opposed to those patients who just don't WANT to drink it). Good luck!!
