I started my 2nd day of the pre-op diet.  So far I'm struggling, but I hope to adjust as the days go on.  My diet consists of 3 protein shakes and one meal. How much weight can I expect to lose on the pre-op diet? I know this can vary by person, but I'm curious to see how much weight people have lost on the diet.

You are right everyone is different and not only that from everything that I have read every surgeon has a different pre OP diet timeline and restrictions. I had a short gastric bypass and had to maintain my weight (for insurance reasons) up to the day of surgery so my pre OP diet consisted pretty much of just one day (the day before). That all being said based on the length of pre OP diet, the type of restrictions and the starting weight must people in my surgeon classes lost anywhere from ten to twenty pounds!

I'm pushing for 10 pounds before my surgery date on 8/26.  My pre-op diet is 2 weeks long and requires 3 protein shakes per day.  I also am allowed one meal 500 calories or under. Wish me luck!

My preop was two weeks...liquid only. My nutrition was Atkins or carnation breakfast drinks and other than those only clear liquids were allowed. I lost 15 pounds.

My diet is also two weeks and I'm using Slim-Fast high protein 3x per day.  I'm also allowed one meal under 500 calories.  I hope that I have drop at least 10 before surgery.

Thanks for your response!

For my 2 week pre op diet. Mine consisted of 3 (26g) protein shakes, 1 protein bar, and 1/4 cup bariatric advantage broth. And all the water/crystal light i wanted...It was a struggle for those entire 2 weeks, but it was well worth it in the end. It got me started mentally for what it was going to be like after surgery, so it wasn't such a shock. You'll do great, just focus on making it to your surgery and you will be great! Good Luck!

Thanks for your encouraging words. My surgery is on 8/26 and I'm excited but very nervous. This will be the first surgery I've ever had and I have a bad case of the jitters.  I guess it's normal though.

I'm on the same pre op diet plan. Sunday will be two weeks, Monday is my surgery! I've lost 12 pounds so far.

Congratulations Tawana B. On your upcoming surgery. I was on a 2 week diet with only liquid it was hard but so worth it and I believe you will do just fine.
