Calories and Exercise
Hi All! So I am 5 weeks out today, and down 53 lbs. I just went back to work yesterday and have been going to the gym in the morning before work. I am doing 20 minutes on the elliptical, and 15 minutes of machine weights. This burns approximately 300 calories, according to MFP.
I am averaging between 400-500 calories a day, with 60-70 g of protein and under 40 carbs. Do I up this at all with the exercise or keep it the same?
This early out? I would stick to your surgical centre's food plan which will slowly increase intake and variety.
You're doing really well - congrats on your great loss thus far!

I've never counted calories (8.5 years post-op). I always count protein and carb grams. My protein intake is higher than yours - I tend to get around 80-90 per day and always have. I did, however, use protein shakes to meet protein goals. Actually, I still do. Focus on protein and hydration at this point - your great exercise is a bonus.

Every plan is different but I was right where you are when I was five weeks post op. Trust me, soon you can fit 600 calories...and then 800...now sometimes I struggle to stay within 1,000...so I personally don't advise going up in calories yet. Rock that small stomach as long as possible lol. My NUT also wouldn't give a calorie goal so I had to take to the forum here to figure it out. But I was at about 500 calories for 2-3 months, then 600 calories from 3-5 months then 800 calories and now 1,000 at eight months out. It's just what has worked for me. Great job incorporating exercise into your new life. I have found that to be really important in reaching my weight loss goals!
