Carbs

I completely agree with you. On my meal plan I have baked potatoes, whole wheat toast, whole grain bread, whole wheat bagel, low-fat macaroni and cheese, whole grain pasta etc. I even have a "homemade chicken and rice casserole" granted the meal plan suggest really small quantities of these foods but they are there.

it is baffling to me how different nutritionist recommend different things, it's a little frustrating!

I don't have a carb goal for the day.  however, I do limit the starches so if I had pasta for lunch, I would not have it for dinner, too.

Got it. That seems pretty reasonable.

I'll add that at six weeks out, I wasn't eating much starchy stuff like pasta or bread at all simply because I didn't have room for it by the time I got my protein in.  I am able to eat a lot more bread and stuff now.

My Doc and nutritionist never gave a carb amount except to say protein first, veggies second and if you still have room a small amount of carb. I asked about 1/2 ww english muffin or crackers just because sometimes it's nice to have something to put things on. She said don't do it more than once a day. The only other carb rule was it shouldn't have more than 5g of sugar in one serving. I've done my fitness pal food diary a few times and my carbs usually come to 50g for the day, not sure about the sugar grams. Good Luck!

I do not count carbs. My program only focused on sugar and protein.

I have reactive hypoglycemia so I do not eat carbs alone. I always have some protein involved.
