Hand sanitizer and chili

So I had my first temptation to keep eating today... I was on my way home from work and started feeling light headed because it had been a while since I had eaten. I haven't had to go thru any fast food places yet so I was having a hard time figuring out what to do. Well I saw Wendy's and remembered my dietician said their chili is a good option when all else fails. I got a small chili and started eating... YUM! It was the best chili I ever tasted which was also bad. My body signaled me I was done eating (runny nose and hiccup) so I stopped eating but there it sat in the cup holder all warm and yummy looking so I took the necessary measures to insure I didn't eat anymore... I squirted hand sanitizer in it... And not just 1 squirt, like 5 or more. As if 1 squirt would make me still want to eat it and 5 wouldn't? Who knows... Anyway, I was really proud of myself for stopping and just wanted to share because I made myself laugh a little over it.

By any means necessary.  Good job!

I love this idea! Chili is the ONE dish that I have a hard time stopping. I am not a fan of Wendy's chili, but still...

I do measure it and put it into a zillion small tuppers when I cook it so I can just grab my portion and I'm allowed to eat it all, but the few times I've had it in a bigger bowl for whatever reason, i find myself grazing.... let some settle, eat some more. GRRR

everything else- chicken, roast, steak, meatloaf, etc.... i can stop when i've had my limit, but something about chili just makes it hard. hand sanitizer would certainly do the trick! LOL

Yes it absolutely did the trick! Haha! I think solids are easier to stop because you get the restriction but chili doesn't really cause any restriction.

Absolutely.  I have driven through a forest and frisbeed stuff out the window - I figure some squirrel will enjoy it.

That was my initial thought but I was on the highway and figured no one would want chili splashed across their windshield haha!

Your initial impulse was right on, but, speaking as someone who could have been behind you, thanks for pulling the hand sanitizer trick instead.  (I can throw a mean apple that is missing one or two bites.)

Seriously, this is the kind of determination and imagination that will help you successfully pull through the toughest times.  Carry on, Sister!

There may be a time when a formerly-favorite food just sits there, but that is not the highest priority in the first months after surgery.  At this point, I think it is best to be safe and not sorry (or foamy) that you had a extra bite.

It may not take lot of therapy to ignore food, and you might find that months down the road, you forget it is even there.  But this is too soon, and there is too much at stake, to test your resolve.

An ex-Marine (ramrod straight back, nary an ounce of fat, ever) who I always thought of as having willpower of steel told me: The best way to resist temptation is to avoid it. (If he thinks this, than this is good advice for me, a mere mortal.)
