Hi! I am new to this forum as I have only had the RNY for a week. I had VSG 6 months ago and had to switch because a a severe hiadial hernia. So being new to this surgery I have a question. I am keeping everything down great. Not a lot of pain anymore besides a stinging pain in my lower left abdomin. I was thinking its gas but it is persistent. Anyone experience something similar?

thanks in advance,

Laura

Does it feel like a big bee sting and does it change if you move a certain way and go away if you're sitting still?  I had that and the Dr. said it was because that was where he had to stitch the holes closed to the fascia and it was pulling every time I moved.  It took it about 5 weeks to go away completely.  Hang in there - it gets easier!  The first 4-5 weeks were hard.

Yes that is sort of how it feels. It hurts when standing and walking. And the pain goes away completely when I sit. I really hope it goes away soon. Thank you so much for your reply! I am so new to this surgery and it's been an adjustment :)

The incision pain for me was strange, it literally rotated from incision to incision, just when one started to feel better the other started to hurt and the final one was the one that was painful in the beginning!  Go figure.  It lasted for me 3-4 weeks.

Sounds like that's what it is.  Just don't ever be afraid to call your surgeon's office and ask them about it, too.  That's what we paid 'em the big bucks for!

Hi Laura: I had the stitch pain in my left lower side too; MD said it was a stitch. The pain has mostly gone away and I'm nearly 3 weeks post op.

My RNY was great for GERD because they also repaired the hiatal hernia - RNY was worth it just for no more hearthburn and the 140 pounds that I've lost is great!

Are you having a 1 week follow-up - tell your doctor.  I did not have any pain like that, but I do have gas pains from time to time now.

Good Luck with everything

Sharon
