To much weight loss?

My surgery was last Thursday and when I was walking the hall at the hospital that night the nurse made me get on the scale it said 323 when I got home last Friday I got on my home scale and it said the same weight. I stepped on my scale tonight here at home and it said 304. Is this ok that I have lost almost 20lbs in 1 week? I would call the Dr and ask but it's late on a Friday night.

Believe me, in a couple of weeks you will be writing poems to your 20 pound, week 1 loss. Enjoy it, and remember this big loss when you ht your first stall. Weight loss should be measured over a long period of time.  Not days, or weeks or even months. You are just fine.  Stick to your plan, and it will all even out.  Congratulations on taking this huge step toward health.  My advice would be, relax and enjoy the ride.  You have embarked on an incredible journey that will change your life. It is amazing!

They pump you full of fluids via IV during and after surgery.  Most of that weight loss is likely from your body finally eliminating that fluid.  It's very common for WLS folks to come home from the hospital 10 pounds heavier than when they went in.

No such thing as losing too fast after WLS.  You need to get as much weight off, as fast as possible while your motivation and restriction is the strongest.  You have plenty of fuel to burn for energy in the form of fat and if you take your vitamins like you are supposed to, get enough protein, and drink at least 64 ounce of fluid daily, you will be nutritionally sound.

Yeah I know what you mean about them pumping you full at the hospital. They weighed me before surgery as well and I had gained 3 lbs during surgery.

As others have said, you are fine. Keep following your doctor's plan as far as getting in your fluids and protein. You may have trouble getting in your fluids for a while, but it will get easier.

You can still call your doctor on Monday to check, but relax until then!!

No such thing. As long as you are getting fluids in and working on building up your protein numbers, all good. Dehydration is the biggest concern at this stage. Realize with a significant drop, you may stall in a week or two, but no worries, all part of the process.
