Go play putt putt golf... bowling... pool...

Ask them to eat first, so that you don't have to worry about it.

Seriously, a few weeks ago a group of us went downtown and played putt putt... it had been years. And we laughed and had a great time.

It's hard to get folks to stop thinking about food as a celebration, but if you suggest something to do, maybe they'll be happy with that!

My birthday was 2 days after my surgery. Needless to say my celebration was being discharges. :)  That being said I am a social person and in my first 6 weeks after surgery- had 3 weddings, my brother's 60th birthday- a week of family that came in for one of the weddings, and an annual BBQ for 100 people in my back yard.... all in the first 6 weeks. I also went to diners with my friends and ate soup... didn't bother me. When I got further out I would have a side salad.

First wedding I ate nothing, second wedding at 2 1/2 weeks out, Doc said I could have some fish- moist and soft.

My go-to festive drink is water with a splash of cranberry and whatever fruit they have-lemon-lime-orange....
