How to tell when your pouch is full...

This gets talked about a lot on this board...But for new people, bringing it up every once in awhile can help.

Over the years the two surest ways to know that you should not take another bite (sip) are:

  1. Your nose starts to run...Do not pass go, do not collect $200.
  2. You get the hiccups.

Both of those are surefire signs.  Are there any others you can think of?  Brian  PS  If you feel your pouch grumble after eating something...Wait 5-10 minutes.  Make sure your pouch is not rejecting the item you put down there...He or she is in control...NOT YOU!!!

I always sigh when I'm almost full. It's the strangest thing, at first I didn't notice it but yep--always happens. I kind of laugh that my mind is sad because I cannot eat anymore!

My wife would always tell me this when we'd be eating dinner. If you sigh out of nowhere, your full. Even if you dont feel it yet (preop). :P

Signs of over-eating for me are:   1.  runny nose  2.  burpy  3. foamies  4.  irritation with myself for knowing better    What I think helps curb over-eating:  1.  measure/weigh portion size served on a small plate  2. chew thoroughly  3.  wait in between bites  4.  eliminate drinking with food  5.  choose dense proteins  6.  resist grazing

Note: not everyone get them...so don't count on them to be "your sign" ... Plus early post op they may be no signs at all..

I get a slight pressure when I had enough...of I eat too fast - I'll miss it.  Depends on a food and a day - I can't know how much is too much just waiting for a sign.  Most of the time - I stop when I are Premeasured portion. Some days - my pouch makes me stop before I eat what I thought I could.

Best way to know - eat Premeasured portion.... Wait 20-25 min.

Thanks ya'll for this post! I'm really struggling with learning how to eat. I pre measure, I put proteins first, with a touch of veggie to add up to the 4 oz the doctor recommended. I'm only learning that 4oz of dense protein is too much for me right now.

1-2 ounces, max. And even then, it's a crapshoot.

I get the hiccups... about 20 minutes AFTER I've finished eating LOL

I am looking forward to the day that my pouch is healed enough to tell me when enough is enough. In the meantime, I've just really cut back on dense proteins when I measure, and I just don't get to eat much. period.

And this too shall pass ;)

I agree!  I am almost 3 weeks out and I have measured everything.  That said, I haven't felt "stuffed" nor have I felt hungry since waking up from surgery.  Luckily I haven't had anything yet that made me feel bad.  I keep wondering, "Did it work?" but I guess it did since I'm not hungry!
