How good are you with NOT drinking before, during, and after eating?

I am really good at it after 2 years. Grim taught me that I can drink water up to the time I eat. That really helped me because I am a water freak.

I just want to make sure that my body is absorbing all the protein that I need.

Good luck all.

Up until about 6-8 months post-op I waited the 30 before and after. I've given up on waiting to drink before- but do wait a minimum of 30 minutes after to drink- usually more because I forget.

Wow!

I have been very strict about not drinking 30 mins before I eat, not eating during a meal and waiting at least 30 minutes to drink after I eat - which sometimes makes it difficult to get my fluids in.  I was told by my NUT the above guidelines.

So I really can drink before I eat???  For real??  I try very hard to follow the "rules"!!

Also, I hope you all don't think this is a dumb questions, but can you define slider foods for me?

Thank you!

My centre also told me I can drink right up until I start eating.

A slider food is something that "slides" right through your pouch, as opposed to protein that sticks around in your stomach. Generally it's food that's very carby. Liquid calories **** cream, etc.) also fall into this category.

Funny - I just finished a shake that took way to long to consume because of work.  So now I'm waiting to start eating my lunch.  I usually wait about 10 or 15 minutes before eating.  But like others have said - I know it likely doesn't matter.  I do sip here and there during a meal, but only at a restaurant.  I don't bring liquid to the table at home.  My wife frequently puts some water on the table for me (on those few occasions she actually cooks for me) and I have to remind her about the no food with a meal rule again.  I usually wait at least 20 minutes after eating to drink again.  It gets easier in a couple of months.

I knew I was going to take some time to adjust to it so I started pre-op. I would put my water bottle in my desk drawer and set timers. Now it's pretty much habit for me.

This is something I always struggled with post-banding....now that I'm heading towards a revision I've buckled down on trying to learn it.  I will drink up until I eat (and I need to as one of my medications makes me soooooo dry, I'd have sandpaper mouth otherwise), I try to leave my water away from me...so I don't reach for it, and I watch the cloc****il 30 minutes have passed.  If my mouth gets super duper dry I will take a tiny sip to simply wet my mouth, but not any amount I can actively swallow.

looks like it's something a lot of us struggle with!
