To coffee or not?

After going off caffeine, and experiencing the mother of all headaches for almost a week, I find now @ 2 months post op that I don't really miss it.  I am having a decaf protein coffee a few times a week although I do find my heartburn flares a bit on those days so I may cut out coffee entirely.  I also drink decaf tea almost every day and I  love the Twinnings Earl Grey decaf blend.  I am a night shift worker and I have found I am sleeping better overall since giving up caffeine, but i was a real addict before, drinking coffee and tea all night.  I don't want to go back, as it was so hard to not have it in the beginning.

It's part of my live healthy plan whi*****ludes diet, exercise and cutting out the stimulants.  I admire the people who can have their one cup of coffee a day and leave it at that.  I love a dark french roast, but I know myself.  If I started back with the yummy full caff coffees and teas I would be right back up to 4-5 cups a day which is not healthy.

I know what you mean about the headaches.  They are the worst!  That's part of the reason I wanted others input.  I had told myself that I wouldn't allow myself to become caffeine addicted after going through that. Since I only drink one cup in the morning it doesn't effect my sleeping.  I have never like tea so unfortunately that's not an option.  I just really feel more energetic and outgoing when I have had it.  So I think it really is just coming down to a personal struggle in telling myself I wouldn't go back to it. Kuddos to you for sticking with your no stimulants plan!

"I just really feel more energetic and outgoing when I have had it."

Just a thought, but could that be the addiction talking? I know, when I quit smoking, I used every excuse I could think of to go back.

I hear what you are saying.  Like I said I told myself I never wanted to get addicted to caffeine again and I know it's a stimulant so that is my personal dilemma.  I work as a teller at a bank and need to be upbeat and energetic and have struggled with that since going caffeine free.  I notice a huge difference when I have had my one cup.  I am trying to find other ways around it though.

I was cleared for a cup of regular coffee, daily, at my 1 week post-op visit. I don't like sugar/sweets, so I never put any sweetener in, but I do make healthier choices in using light milk (soy is my favorite). For the first 2 weeks after, I was using my coffee with protein powder to supplement, but once I started getting a lot of protein from my other meals during the day, I stopped. I typically hate the thought of drinking my calories.

Currently, I drink 8 oz. of cold brew plus 8 oz. of Light Soy Milk daily = equals out to about 70 calories and 6 grams of protein. I can live with that, and not feel like I'm being deprived at any other meals. :)

I drink tea 2-3 times a week and when I do I drink 2-3 cups of it. I always make sure that I am drinking water and not getting dehydrated.
