It's all in the family

I had VSG 14 weeks ago and am so excited to be down 40 pounds. My husband commented today that I "seem happier." Well, I am. I feel so much better about myself.

Now, the interesting part. He's going to have the surgery. "Not for weight loss, but for health reasons." I go along with him on that. He's seen the challenges, but also the results. I never suggested he have surgery, but I'm actually very proud of him for deciding to take charge of his life.

He has had the surgeon's group counseling. Labs and first nutrition appointment were today. They want him to lose 10 pounds before surgery and have 2 more nutrition appointments a month apart. But, we may be saving even more money on food by the fall.

Wow! Way to go on your loss, and I'm happy your DH decided to do something good for himself!! Does his insurance cover VSG?

Thanks Abby. Yes, my husband's insurance covers the VSG. Mine didn't, but I couldn't be happier with my choice of surgeon.

I couldn't be happier with your choice of surgeon, either! :D That's why I was curious about your DH being covered. :) I assumed you would go to Dr. Aceves  for his surgery, too, unless he was covered.

Oh that's great that he's having surgery as well. Being 1/2 of a couple who goes thru this together is a fun ride. Your spouse really DOES understand what you are doing then.

As supportive as my DH has been of me, there is no way he is ready to change how he eats.  That's ok because we don't keep stuff in the house that tempt me.  But congrats to him for making a change for the better.  And it will make your life easier, I imagine with everyone on the same plan.  You may be happy that you are a couple of months ahead because men tend to lose so much more rapidly than women do.

Too funny! I had surgery on March 8, 2010, then my husband and his brother had surgery on March 31, 2010, then my next door neighbor had hers in June, 2010, now my sis-in-law will have hers in June 2011. All the same surgeon - I think I should get a kick back!!

It's good that your husband made a decision. It is easier to do it together.
