My mother happens to be friends with my surgeon and he was telling her that because I don't have "much to lose". My weight loss will start to slow down significantly. I was really hoping to lose at least 100lbs. I'm really not a tall girl. It just makes me nervous I guess because I know that the first 6-9 months are the most important in getting the weight off.

Hang in there. I was the slowest LW loser on this board.  It took me 18 months of tracking and daily exercise, but I got there.

Your're young, you'll do fantastic.  Follow your rules and the weight will come right off!

I don't think he's explaining it quite right. We lose just like anyone else, we just have less to lose. We don't lose slower. i lost 8 pounds pre-op, so those aren't showing here but look at how fast the BMI goes down for a lightweight. We're no different than the heavy weights as far as speed, we just have less to lose.

At 4'11", 220 to start with, I lost all my excess weight and this morning was 112.  I have been in the 113-115 range since Oct, or 13 months.  Yes, it did slow down but as long as I followed my surgeons rules and then stayed around 100g of protein a day and 30g of carbs, it didn't matter that I was a lightweight, it was all gone.

You will do fine, just follow the program.

When you think of the amount of weight lost as a percentage of what you need to lose, lightweights usually do BETTER than the heavyweights who lose more pounds. MacMadame has explained this nicely in many of her posts and on her website:

I will chime in with everyone else. I haven't lost as many pounds per week as many others, but as a percentage of body weight, I have lost very quickly.  After about 5 months, my BMI is now in the normal range, and I'm still losing toward my target of BMI in the middle of the range.  The key is to keep to the plan - exercise, and focus on getting in all my protein and vitamins.

Everyone has challenges in this journey - you'll find what your specific challenges are, and then develop skills to overcome them.  That's what it is all about.

I have found this to be very helpful (and accurate so far)... you put your starting weight in and it estimates what you will lose monthly.

 Good Morning Sabrina...

It has been that way with me losing slower too...I have been struggling to lose the last 10 pounds before my 1 year Surgiversary!!  It has been slow and tedious...finally down to the last 2lbs to goal but it is taking its time....Everyone looses at their own pace...Hang in there, stick to the program with diet, fluids and exercise..the weight will come off...Keep your eyes on the prize!!!!  Good Luck!!!

And here's another perspective -

Some heavyweights post that they are losing 20 pounds a week, especially the first couple weeks. If they have 200 pounds to lose, their body can probably take that for a couple weeks but then they slow down.

A lightweight who lost 20 pounds a week for the first couple weeks would be about half done with loss before the incisions were healed.

Imagine that - seriously. We'd turn into skeletons overnight!

Health wise, we're better off to follow the same pattern as most other people, with about 10% of our excess weight most months. The number on the scale for what we lose is smaller, but our overall journey takes about the same time and we get the end result we want.
