Doctor's Visit and Insurance

Jan 23, 2010

Doctor's visit was fine....just as expected. He indicated I am prime candidate for this surgery with the lapband. A loss of 50 - 60 lbs should resolve all of my medical issues and get me off the meds. Yay! He was very nice, informative and engaging. Next step is submitting and waiting for insurance approval.....

Jan 22nd brought my insurance approval. Nice to have it in writing although I did not anticipate any issues, but one never knows in the insurance world. I'm sure they'll come out way ahead not paying for all of the meds and heaven knows what else in the future is I intend to live at least another 50 years! I'm kinda mean like that. :)

Next step is to schedule pre-op testing. I have completed psych eval, which came back great. GI to test for hernias and blood work is all that is left but my case manager indicates that can take up to 12 weeks! WTF? I am going to see if my PCP can schedule that outside of the clinic to get it to go faster.

I am still not getting excited as it's looming so far on the horizon and doesn't really even seem real yet. I'm too pragmatic sometimes and I think this is one of those times. I'm going to email my case manager and let her know my approval came and find out the fastest way to get these tests done. They won't schedule surgery until the tests are done and the surgeon has evaluated everything. We'll see...and I will update once there is more news. :)
