I ate a cookie...but should have had the fries.

Dec 20, 2012

Christmas, the season for food. Oh yes you know it's true, the holidays come through and it's like a never ending smorgasbord from November through January. Everywhere you turn there are platters and bowls and plates filled with delicious desserts, confections, and fattening delights.   For those trying to lose weight it's like storming Normandy except Normandy looks more like CandyLand.

The treacherous canyons of cookies, candy cane forests, beaches of pure white confectioners delights. A veritable sugar coma waiting to happen.  And you think hmmm, it's just one cookie.

Just   One   Cookie.

But really that one cookie stands for so much more. So the debate begins. I could eat the cookie. I could take the cookie and ignore it and pretend I don't want the cookie. I could nibble the icing off and that won't be as bad as eating the whole cookie. I could eat just half a cookie.  The cookie isn't really a food group so it doesn't really have calories. The cookie is ugly so I don't want to eat it. The cookie is beautiful and waiting to be eaten.  What will happen if I eat the cookie? That cookie is like the golden ticket of cookies, I MUST HAVE! NO! YES! NO! YES!

And then I'm sitting there realizing that I am giving this cookie WAAAAY too much power over me. Either eat it or don't but good grief I could have eaten a whole buffalo in the time it took to debate over the stupid cookie!

I admit it. I ate the cookie. I picked out just the right cookie. The one I wanted to try the most. There were other cookies there but this was the cream of the cookie crop. The cookie of all cookies.

So I ate it. And it wasn't really all it was cracked up to be. I didn't even eat all of it but not out of guilt or remorse. It was more that it just didn't taste as good as I thought it would. And honestly I didn't want to have to spend more time than needed on the treadmill to burn off stupid non-good tasting calories.

I ate the cookie but I should have just eaten the french fries my other coworker brought in.

:-)
