Day 1....
Feb 15, 2013
Today is the first day of my self-imposed 6 month trial to prove to the insurance company that I can and have complied with the requirements for working my Lap Band. I am going to follow the diet, do the exercise, attend every dr. recommended appointment for fills, and document the weight on a weekly basis. This blog will serve as my documentation that I am doing as I should or that I am at least trying. There may be somewhat of a build up to getting back into the habit of doing everything right, but again I am trying. So here goes:
Exercise: I worked out my arms, abs, back and shoulders in the gym lifting between 30-70lbs of weight on 8 different machines. I also walked on the treadmill for 10 minutes @ 2.0 and burned 28 calories.
My pre-workout snack: 1 Strawberry Nutrigrain bar
My post-workout snack: 2 slices of cheese and 16 oz of water.
Had to have 1 candy(a Fun Dip) because my blood sugar was low.
My lunch: Mongolian (stir-fried beef and seafood with veggies)...was VERY hungry within an hour of eating, but did not eat anything else until dinner.
Dinner: Fajita chicken with sauteed' peppers and onions and cheese on a wheat tortilla
My weight today: 317.8 lbs
I called my surgeon's office to schedule a Lap Band Fill appointment it is scheduled for: March 12th @ 1:20PM.
Let me just take a minute to vent a little frustration I just had with scheduling my fill appointment. OK, so I am considered non-compliant if I miss a fill appointment, but how about when I go in for the fill appointment and they don't get you out of there for 2 hours? I have had appointments with this surgeon, scheduled for early afternoon and have had to walk out (after 5) because I have to race across town to pick my child up from daycare by 6! Anyways, that's not the frustration, the frustration is that I try to schedule the fill appointment, they now only have one person who does fills, and she only works on Mondays and Tuesdays! Really? The most well-known bariatric surgeon in town and they only do fills 2 days a week?!?! Imagine the hassel of scheduling an appointment! I am working on my Masters' degree and I drive an hour and a half each way 4 days a week, including the 2 days the filler works! I couldn't find a time we both were available till spring break!! RIDICULOUS!!! How about hiring someone else so there isn't so much competition to get into the office for a fill? UGH....only 6 more months God-Willing....
Ok the blood sugar roller coaster is no fun. It screws with my hunger (making me hungrier at times). If I had the bypass, my diabetes could be cured, I could be off of the insulin, and my blood sugar would stabilize. I saw a documentary on 60 Minutes that says that people can be cured before they even leave the hospital after surgery.
