Good News!

Sep 23, 2011

Hi yàll

As I`m sure you`ve noticed by reading my last blog, I had my first two appointments pertaining to RNY on September 19th. My first appointment was with the psychologist and it was an evaluation to ensure that I am ``ready`` for weight loss surgery as it is definitely a drastic and life altering change. A couple of days before the evaluation, I stated that I was extremely nervous and worried for this particular appointment. In my heart, I knew that I was ready but I worried that the psychologist would have a different perspective. I prayed the whole ride there, before the appointment and even IN the appointment. Haha.

As it turns out, I really was worrying for nothing. After about an hour and half speaking with her, I was told that she was going to tell her team to ``continue things as normal`` (meaning that she saw me as ``psychologically ready`` for this surgery). After I was given the news, I shed a few tears of joy. I have worked hard this last year and I feel as though it has paid off.
The path I have been on has not worked for me and in retrospect, it was extremely self destructive and I am DONE with living this way!

I also had an appointment that day with the dietitian. He is such a nice man; very professional, kind and understanding. We discussed my eating habits, what exactly I need to change and how my eating habits will differ after having the surgery. I had my blood pressure taken (171 over 90--yikes) and I was told that my Vitmain D is low. He would like me to start taking Calcium Citrate as well as a multi-vitamin.

So, what`s next? I had quite a few appointments booked: Internist on Oct 19, Endoscopy on Oct 28th and they sent requisitions to my family doctor for an ultrasound and ECG. I also have to have a pre-sleep study (I have a device attached to my fingers for 24 hours to monitor my oxygen levels). If all these tests come back well, I will then meet with the surgeon and get MY SURGERY DATE!!!! It seems like this process has really progressed now.

This feels like quite a long post, so I will call it quits. Hehe.

P.S-- I was weighed for the first time in a year and I am currently 385 lbs.

Thank you all for sharing this journey with me; your support is greatly appreciated!
