Hello

Jan 23, 2010

Hello everyone...I'm new at this and hope to give as well as get helpful advice. The pic on my profile is my 2 1/2 yr old grandson, Rylan who is my heart. When he wants me to get on the floor to play with him and I can't because I will not be able to get up, something died in me. I had just about given up due to the PCOS and Insulin Resistance when I was blessed with the decision to do the VSG surgery. My surgery date is Feb 2, 2010.  That will be my new birthday!

As I look at that sweet little face on my profile pic, I see how much I've missed in the last 30 years due to weight issues, but no more. I grew up very skinny and have felt the prejudice from both sides. Neither is fun. But for the first time in a very long time, I have hope. Hope for the future and hope for myself. Sometimes I would dream of being able to run again and wake up with the realization that I would probably never be able to due to the weight.  I had a partial knee replacement due to injury 4 years ago and knew that it wouldn't last if the weight didn't come off. In fact, my weight got worse and after no luck on meds for the insulin resistance, this is my last try.

My doctor has not put me on any diet prior to surgery. Should I go on a protein shake diet to shrink my liver anyway?  I had a gallbladder surgery 6 months ago and there were no complications but this is a totally different surgery.  Also, I am very concerned about taking the right vitamins to avoid hair loss, etc. I was thinking chewable Centrum and Vitamin C, B-12, Omega 3's and possibly Vitamin D. Any suggestions?

Any advice will be greatly appreciated.  Thanks everyone!!
