Recap of hospital stay

Jun 10, 2011

Reader's Digest Condensed version:

Wednesday I arrived at the hospital at 6:00 am.  Put on gowns,  answered questions to make sure I did everything I was supposed to do.  Met the anestiologist and the CNA..  Moved up to OR about 10 til 8 am .  Surgery started around 8:15.  Next thing I know it was 12 noon and I was heading to my room.  Surgeon spoke to hubby around 11:30.

Slept most of Wednesday.  I kept telling hubby to go home instead of just sitting there.  I could not drink anything until after my leak test Thursday morning.  That went well and I received my first liquid tray (hot tea, broth, 2 cups of jello (2 oz. each) and 8 oz of lemonade.

Started feeling lots better on Thursday and not as tired.  I answered all my work e-mails ( I hope I made sense).  Walked the halls several times.  My nurse said that I was the best patient she ever had.  I walked without being proded, I did everything I was suppose to do.  The family visited in the a.m.  My SIL who had RNY 2 1/2 years ago by the same surgeon came at lunch then a friend from work came in the evening.

Friday I received my discharge instruction on measuring the stuff in my drain,  changing the dressings, saw the surgeon and the case manager from his office then went home.  The case manager mentioned that the biopsy from my liver came back and there was almost no fat in my liver.  She said I really must have done well on my pre-op diet.

The staff was wonderful.  I could not ask for better nurses, techs, doctors, housekeepers.  Everyone was asking if they could get me anything.

Well,  I better go sip, sip, sip.....
